When Maynard’s second ship came broadside of the “Adventure,” Blackbeard’s crew fired their cannons and hurled grenades across the deck of the British vessel. Blackbeard assumed victory was his and swung across to board, yet Maynard’s sailors were waiting for the pirates below deck.
