In November of 1718, Lt. Robert Maynard of the Royal Navy answered Governor Spotswood’s call for help. Arriving with two shallow-drafting sloops, designed to navigate the shallow water around Ocracoke, Lt. Maynard faced off with Blackbeard’s “Adventure.”
