Jean Lafitte

General Andrew Jackson arrived to defend New Orleans and quickly realized that by taking out Lafitte’s force, Patterson had eliminated the city’s first line of defense from the sea. Lafitte met with Jackson and offered his services in return for a pardon for all his men. Lafitte’s men subsequently performed brilliantly in the Battle of New Orleans.
