Governor Rogers recommended a divorce instead, where Bonney’s husband could sell her to Calico Jack. In response, the feisty Bonney stated, “I will not be bought and sold like cattle.” Rogers ordered the flogging, but Bonney disguised herself in men’s clothes and hit the high seas with Jack.
