Hole #12
Sisters in Crime
Anne Bonney &
Mary Read
English law prevented the court from taking the life of an unborn child by executing the mother, hence the execution of both female pirates were “stayed,” until after childbirth. There is no record of Bonney’s execution. Some say Anne’ rich father bought her freedom, while others state she returned home to her husband. And of course there are accounts of Anne returning to the life of piracy under another name!
